Lunch is for Wimps! | Ep. #59

February 17, 2021

In this episode Phil enjoys a healthy rant about lunchtimes and the famous quote from Oliver Stone's film Wall Street that 'Lunch is for wimps! 30 years on this quote still embodies how most organisation treat this precious 1 hour a day that we should all be taking as time to refresh, refuel and reenergise.

Research has shown that the mental health of the 9-5 working population has been negatively affected by the COVID pandemic, and that many of us (working remotely) have suffered from a reduction in the downtime we need to stay healthy and supercharged.

For Phil, the COVID pandemic will be remembered as the time when 3-4 face-to-face meetings per day became 8-10 virtual meetings per day. Without the limitations of travel, room availability, etc we have unconsciously created a new system of productivity that leaves even less time for downtime and re-fuelling.

In this episode Phil lays out the argument that lunchtimes should be become sacrosanct and unmovable by employers and seen as on-negotiable by all whose enjoy a 9-5 working day.
